HPTC Tennis Memorial 2023 Scholarship Essay
By Evan Dine
Tennis consists of many of the same components as many, if not all, of life’s other endeavors. In tennis, hardships are faced, doubts are formed, and pain is not uncommon. However, in order to win, one must persevere through all those things. This is true not just of tennis, but of life itself. If one wants to succeed, if one wants to achieve one’s dreams, perseverance is a must. For example: I plan to become a certified pharmacist, which means I have to go through a doctoral program that lasts six years. Thankfully, tennis has been a mentor in more ways than one. A majority of the things in life are not things that can be done alone. Although tennis is a relatively independent sport, the influence of my fellow teammates is something that has rubbed off on me in countless ways. I now understand that in order to reach the top of whatever it is I am trying to do, you have to be able to work together, which is just one of the numerous things tennis has taught me.
